The business conclave organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Kolkata and Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI) gave more stress on expanding border trade and investment opportunities by Indian businessman in Myanmar.
The team held series of meetings with as many as six Union Ministers of Myanmar holding important portfolios during the visit and discussed with them the prospects and opportunities for bilateral trade and investment. They also met and interacted with various Chamber of Commerce of Myanmar including head office bearers of UMFCCI and Businessman of Myanmar.
Earlier, on August 27 they called on Chief Minister of Mandalay Region and attended
a seminar on Bilateral Trade and Investment. The next day, the team called on the
Chief Minister of Sagaing Region at Monywa and attended Business Meet with the Monywa
Chamber of Commerce and prospective Investors and Business Delegates. The Indian
delegation gave a courtesy call on various Union Ministers of Republic of the Union
of Myanmar on reaching the capital city, Nay Pyi Taw on August 29 where they focused
on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual cooperation and interest,

Delays caused Rs 14,000 cr cost overruns in 16 hydro projects:CAG
New Delhi, Aug 31: Delay in implementing 16 hydro power projects by four state-
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said geological surprises as well as many other "controllable factors" led to the delay in implementation of 16 projects by NHPC, SJVN, THDC and NEEPCO.
"Delay in execution of 16 projects by four Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) resulted in revision of their initial approved cost of Rs 30,005 crore to Rs 44,712 crore. In seven completed/ongoing projects, the cost overrun was in the range of 53 to 148 per cent," CAG said.
CAG made these observations in report titled 'Capacity Expansion in Hydro Power Sector by CPSEs for the year ended March 2012', that was tabled in the Parliament.
Out of the 16 projects, as many as 11 are being implemented by NHPC, while the company is a joint venture partner with Madhya Pradesh government in another project.
There are two plants of NEEPCO and one each of THDC and SJVN.
All these 16 hydro plants together have a generation capacity of 6,794 MW. Out of

Even though, geological surprises were one of the major reasons for the delays, CAG said there were other factors.
"Other controllable factors like delay in handing over of access roads to the contractors, wrong assessment of land requirements, delay in issuance of construction drawings, increase in scope of work due to incorrect assessment of bill of quantities etc. also contributed to delay in execution of the projects," the auditor said.
According to CAG, thorough survey and investigation, as envisaged in the Hydro Power Development policy would have minimised geological surprises.
"Other factors like delay in handing over of access roads, delay in issuance of construction drawings, etc, could have been controlled by propoer coordination and monitoring by the CPSEs," the report said.

ITANAGAR, Aug 31: Arunachal Pradesh Government has decided to hand over the journalist shoot out case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the premier investigation agency of the country.

‘Tapung Yingkong’-
ITANAGAR, Aug 31: “Tapung Yingkong”, an anthology of 82 Adi songs published in English is the culmination of enduring passion of Adi lyricist and singer Guni Pertin for song and music.
The songs in the book reflect Pertin’s rendezvous with life as a young student from Bolung village to the present day. Some of the songs, like ‘Kangken Angonge, Ditag Ditagem’ are socially thought evoking, which were written during the 1970s when the writer was in school, while some on preserving culture and traditions relating to Solung and others writer’s observations and tryst with life. The inspiration taken from nature underlines of most of the songs of Pertin.
The book will be released on the occasion of Solung celebrations at Itanagar tomorrow. The songs have been dedicated by the writer to his parents and the artists, who have departed before exposing their latent quality in the field of arts and culture.

Dumporjo needs LPG branch office
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of authorities towards the problem being faced by the thousands of people due to inadequate supply of LPG cylinders at Dumporijo Township and its adjoining villages. It has been observed that since the opening of LPG branch office at Dumporijo the supply system has been fluctuating more and more.
It is observed that within 3 to 4 months only one LPG loaded truck with carrying capacity of only 305 LPG cylinders was engaged against more than six thousands consumers. As a result aggrieved customers expressed their resentment and the LPG cylinders were distributed from EAC office Dumporijo Headquarter rather than the old branch office. After the new initiatives, the problem, however, remained the same. Lastly, it has been transferred to main branch office Daporijo again.
Now, the situation of customers becomes more deplorable as there is no any other LPG branch office in the vicinity of Dumporijo. Whereas, in Daporijo also, which is 13 km away from Dumporijo, more than 12,000 LPG customers have been suffering because of inadequate supply of cylinders.
Moreover, irregular supply of LPG and lack of transportation facilities to carry LPG cylinders from Daporijo added woes to the Dumporijo people.

We, on behalf of the poor and needy people of Upper Subansiri district, would like
to draw the attention of the SP, Upper Subansiri district towards the remour of unfair
attempt by the candidates of different background in regards to the ongoing recruitment
process for the posts of constable in APP/IRBn. The rumour of unfair attempt has
been spreading like wild-
Immediately after the advertisement for the recruitment in APP/IRBn constable posts, the confrontation and conflicts have become order of the day in the families of the candidates. Some candidates are creating pressure on their parents to sell out their immovable properties like land and building, while some others asking their parents to take loan from near and dear ones for the sole purpose of purchasing constable post. Interestingly, some of the parents of the candidates, who do not have land for sale and unable to taking loan, are approaching the political leaders for a favour for their sons/brothers in recruitment process.
In view of the above mentioned fact, we fervently appeal to the authorities concerned to conduct the recruitment in free and fair manner without any interference and to take action against those who are trying to purchase the sanctity and integrity of the police department.

Solid wastes and environmental concerns
With industrialization of most countries in the world, increasing global population and rising demands for food and other essentials, waste products are being released into our ecosystems leading to an increase in pollution levels. This disturbs the lives of plants, animals and humans. According to the United Nations, in the 1992 Earth Summit, around 60 per cent of countries worldwide expressed their concern about disposing solid wastes along with other environmental concerns. The problem of global warming is a major threat to our planet and gets intensified due to waste disposal which is a primary reason for greenhouse gases.
Recently, a French green documentary highlights the prime issues pertaining to waste throughout the world. The documentary film showcases the urgency to reduce the amount and harmfulness of waste and also focuses on finding alternate ways for disposal of waste, which has doubled over the years. It shows the dangers of incinerators which were once considered the best solution for waste treatment, but causes cancer and other detrimental effects in people living nearby.
Since waste disposal issues are not pertinent to just one country, all the nations should come out together with effective policies to address the environment related matters.
